A 22-year-old man in Mangochi is being held in police custody for assaulting to death a 7-year-old standard 2 learner at Makumba Primary School in the District.

The District’s police publicist, Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi has confirmed of the incident and identified the suspect as Limbani Sani who hails from Steven village in the Area of Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi.

According to Daudi, the incident occurred on June, 24th, 2022 in Chilomolo village.

The grandfather of the deceased child told the police that on that day, the deceased told him that he was going to M’dibwi Fishing Dock to play with friends after classes.

“Few hours later, the little boy was found lying dead in a pool of blood with a deep cut wound from the right eye to the ear in a nearby bush to the said dock, “Daudi said.

Police believes that the deceased was hit in the head with a big stick that was found beside him as it had blood stains.

Police launched an investigation and managed to arrest the suspect who did not disclose the motive for his action.

A postmortem revealed that the death was due to loss of blood by the severe head injury.

Sani has since been charged with murder which is contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code and will appear before court soon.
