An unregistered vehicle has left three people dead and 27 others with various degrees of injuries after it went off road at Mphora bend number 13 at Hewe in Rumphi in the late hours of Saturday.

The vehicle was being driven by 42-year-old Vitumbiko Nkosi who hails from Kajiso Shaba Village under Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba.

According to Rumphi Police publicist, Sergeant Tupeliwe Kabwilo, on the said day, Nkosi was driving the Tata Lorry from Mzuzu heading Hewe with 30 passengers on board who were going to attend a funeral ceremony.

“Upon arrival at the said place he lost control of the motor vehicle and went offside the road, hitting trees and injuring several people in the process. The three were pronounced dead upon arrival at Rumphi District Hospital, while driver and other passengers are receiving treatment at the same health facility,” said the publicist.

The deceased have been identified as Kenani Mkandawire, 60, Rose Mkandawire 37 and Dorothy Chavula 35 all from Vimba Village under Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District.
