The Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested three Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) officials for abuse of power.

In a press release signed by MRA Principal Public Relations Officer, Egrita, M Ndala, the three have been identified as Mrs. Roza Mbili, the Former Deputy Commissioner General, Mr Fredrick Mpeusa, Former Manager for Customs and Excise and Ms. Abigail Kawamba, Deputy Commissioner, Enforcement and Operations.

The three were arrested today, 7th July, 2022 in Blantyre  following a tip that ACB received in 2020 alleging that some officers are abusing the former President’s Tax Identification Number (TPIN).

“The investigation which commenced in August, 2020 established that the three were facilitating duty free clearance of various imported goods under CPC 418 belonging to Former President. They are likely,” part of the press release read.

The three will be charged with abuse of office which is contrary to section 25B (1) as read with section 34 of the Corrupt Practices Act and Neglect of duty contrary to section 121 of the penal code.

They are scheduled to appear in court once being interviewed by ACB.
