DRUNK WOMAN RAPED IN A ROOM SHE BOOKED WITH FIANCE

In Zambia, a 24-year-old nursing student at a named nursing school in Kitwe has allegedly been raped while she was in a drunken state.

The victim is believed to have been left alone in a room booked by her fiance at a named guest house after a drinking spree when the suspect gained entry to her room and sexually abused her.

Copperbelt Province Commanding officer Sharon Zulu said that police have since arrested 27-year-old Michael Zulu of Presidential area in Kitwe’s Ndeke area.

Ms Zulu said that the incident occurred today at around 04:30 hours at Leisure guest house and that the victim sustained vaginal and general body pains.

“Brief facts are that,the victim who was drunk and was dropped off at the said guesthouse by her fiance . The two had gone out on a drinking spree, within kitwe town and afterwards they booked a room and the fiance left the victim sleeping. It is at this moment that the suspect, who was booked in the next room, noticed that the victim, who was drunk, was left alone. The suspect took advantage and forcedly opened one of the sliding windows to room 2, and jumped into the victim’s room, removed her underwear and had unlawful carnal knowledge,” she said.

Ms Zulu said whilst in the act, the victim woke up and asked the suspect as to why he was doing that.

“For fear of being harmed, she just got a photo of him and kept quiet. After finishing raping her, the suspect dressed up and left the room through the door. When she woke up around 07:00hours, she reported the matter to the receptionist, who helped in identifying the suspect through the clothes on the photo. The matter was then reported to police and the crime scene was visited where Police requested the workers at the guesthouse to call the suspect on phone and he responded to the call. Upon arrival at the guesthouse, he was apprehended by police and taken to the Police station,” she said.

Ms Zulu added that upon being interviewed, the suspect admitted having taken advantage of the victim’s drunken state, and raped her.
