Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has announced death of Right Reverend Remi Sainte-Marie Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe.

In a statement signed by ECMs Secretary General, Father Henry Saindi, the Archbishop passed away on Sartuday in Canada while receiving treatment.

It is noted that on September 7, 2000, he was ordained Bishop of Dedza and later on 18th February 2006, he became coadjutor Bishop for the diocese of Lilongwe.

He became the Bishop of Lilongwe in 2007 on 4th July.

When the diocese of Lilongwe was being raised to the status of Archdiocese in 9, February, 2011, he was installed as the Archbishop for the new Archdiocese.

He served the Archdiocese until his retirement in 2013.

He was born in 11, January, 1938 and was ordained a priest on 29, June, 1963.

He was a member of the Missionaries of Africa that are also called the White Fathers.

Details of the funeral program will be announced in due course, according to the statement.
