FORMER TRADITIONAL LEADER SEEKS COURT ORDER AGAINST HIS PREDECESSOR

By Lovemore Katanda

The fired Neno district Chief Cheku Cheku has threatened to obtain the court order restraining the newly installed  chief from carrying out his duties in the area.

The former Chief, whose real name is Francis Magombo, has  disclosed this in an exclusive interview that his dismissal was based on political sabotage perpetuated by some members in the area who do not wish him well.

Magombo said that he would like to continue with development programmes that he initiated in the area during his tenure of office.

The former Chief Cheku Cheku added that he was surprised as to why the ministry of local government was not reinstalling him as the chief in the area despite several interventions by the relevant authorities including court and district council.

“On October 13, 2016, we had a discussion at DCs offices to resolve the matter and during that time, I was recommended as the rightful person for the throne. Besides that, the court also ruled in my favour but up to now nothing tangible is coming out,” said the former chief.

Magombo said he still believe that they are some people in the area who are connived with the district commissioner and facilitated his removal.

Magombo further said that the current traditional authority cheku cheku do not belong to the cheku cheku clan and he has since threaten to obtain the court order soon restraining the incumbent chief continuing presiding over  as a chief in the area if the matter remains unresolved.

Efforts to talk to the district commissioner for Neno district, Justine Kathumba, proved futile as his mobile phone went unanswered after several attempts.

But Public Relations Officer in the ministry of local government, Anjoya Mwanza has asked for more time to comment on the matter.

According to the some documents this publication has seen, Inkosi Gomani held a discussion with the chiefs in cheku cheku area on January 25, 2015 to iron out the chieftaincy wrangle and the outgoing chief, Magombo, was proven to be belonging to the cheku cheku clan.

Mr Francis Magombo was crowned a chief by the then local government minister George Chaponda in 2007 and was dismissed during the Malawi’s former President Joyce Banda’s regime.
