In a bizarre incident reported from India, a wild elephant is said to have killed a 70-year-old woman then returned to her funeral where it lifted the body from a pyre and trampled it.
Reports say the incident occured in Odisha Mayurbhanj district where conflicts between humans and wild animals are a thing of common occurrence.
Maya Murmu was killed by the elephant on Thursday morning when the beast strayed into Raipal village from Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary where it found her drawing water.
After the attack, Murmu was taken to hospital but she failed to survive.
But during the funeral, when the family members and friends were performing the last rites, the same elephant re-appeared, took the body from pyre and trampled it before it returned to where it came from.
It remains unclear if the elephant had also injured other persons.
