A 24-year-old man is expected to appear in court for stealing K9 million from Grandmax Company where he works.

The suspect, Moyenda Goliath was responsible for collecting cash from Simama Salima Sugar Distributor and depositing it to the banks.

According to Salima police spokesperson, Jacob Khembo, the suspect stole the money on July 1 when he was sent to deposit money to the bank.

“In the morning of Saturday July 1, 2022, Moyenda collected K9, 193,500.00 from the sugar sales and took the cash to the bank in order to deposit it to his company, Grandmax.

“His employer tried to call him and responded to be in the bank and when tried again, his phone was unreachable,” explains Khembo.

Upon suspecting something fishy, the employer Benjamin Luhanga alerted the police. Through their investigation, police discovered that the suspect was in Ntcheu the same day and when quizzed about the money he replied that it has been stolen magically.

He is set to appear in court for a charge of theft by servant contrary to section 286 of the penal code.
