Malawi Congress Party has responded to claims made by Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima alleging that he and President Lazarus Chakwera will share terms as part of their agreement in Tonse Alliance.
The United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader addressed Malawians earlier today in Lilongwe where he revealed the allegation as among other agreements of Tonse partnership.
According to him, the Alliance agreed that Chakwera will only rule first five years of his term and allow Chilima to continue from 2025.
But responding to the allegations, MCP’s Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka has described the statements as false saying they do not have any “documentation stipulating sharing of term of office for the position of the President of Malawi.”
The party is currently addressing a media briefing at the party’s headquarters in Lilongwe.
