Police in Blantyre are on the manhunt for kidnappers who abducted the son of well-known businessman Shyam Patel of OG Plastics.
The attackers, armed with panga knives attacked the 14-year-old boy and his father last night, Thursday near Hindu Temple in Limbe Township, according to Limbe Police Publicist Patrick Mussa.
“They attacked both the father and his 14-year-old son as they were coming from the temple and demanded a ransom of K6, 000,000 to release the boy,” said the publicist.
Follow-up reports indicated that the father paid the kidnappers a sum of K1 Million through his son’s mobile wallet before they went away with the phone and abandoned the boy at Puma filling Station in Makhetha, Blantyre.
Meanwhile, police said they have launched an investigation to bring the culprits to book since cases of this kind have become rampant.
