POLICE OFFICER SHOOTS MAN DEAD IN LILONGWE

Police in Lilongwe have shot dead a man at Acres Bottle Store on Sunday, July, 7 at around 22;50 hours.

According to reports, the yet to be identified deceased person was at Acres Bottle Store where he bought bottled water and left without paying.

THE INCIDENT OCURRED IN LILONGWE TOWN AT NIGHT

“While was about distance of 50 metres, one of Bar tenders  Mr wilson Malunga followed him asking for payment and the deceased instead of paying the money he grabbed Mr Wilson and punched him down,” police say.

The police further say the watchmen of Gateway Campus had realized that the bar tender had been assaulted and reported to Gateway Mall Police Unit.

Following that, Sub inspector David Chitsike went to the scene but he was also attacked by the same person who also wanted to snatch the officers’ rifle before the watchmen intervened.

“Later the deceased went into the Bottle store hiding, the rank followed him and the deceased tried to snatch the rifle again but was accidentally shot on the left Chest by the rank,” police added.

His body was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital mortuary pending postmortem Examination and identification.
