Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has denied bail for a Chinese national Susu who appeared in court today facing five counts of child trafficking.

State prosecutor Prescot Mwayiulipo argued against releasing Lu Ke on bail, to protect him from the general public that is angered by his conduct.

He also told Senior Resident Magistrate James Mankhwazi that Susu may interfere with investigations and intimidate witnesses who are minors if granted bail, sentiments that the Magistrate agreed with.

He further prayed that he should be remanded to Maula prison until the states completes its investigation within 15 days.

In response, the accused said he needs bail because ever since he was arrested, be barely eats such that he had only taken one meal since he has no relatives to bring him food.

Lu Ke was being represented by Limbikani Mhura, for interpretation of the court proceedings, but is yet to identify a lawyer.

He will take plea at a later date.

Susu is alleged to have produced dehumanizing videos of the children and made a money out of the videos. The videos were posted on the internet.

He fled to Zambia after reports of the alleged exploitation and was later arrested in Zambia and handed over to Malawi on Saturday.
