Reports have indicated that there was tension at St Peter’s Hospital in Likoma after family members refused to collect their relative’s dead body following unruly words that one of the nurses uttered.

According to reports, the family members had refused to collect the remains of their relative after learning that one nurses had threatened to ‘finish’ a 74-year-old patient who had been admitted for asthma.

Zodiak reported that the incident occurred on Sunday morning.

Prior to the patient’s death, the nurse whose name has been withheld threatened to ‘finish’ the now deceased Asthma patient, Florence Tchemba arguing that she was taking long to die. The nurse who is said to have been in drunken state said he would use deadly injection to deal with the patient.

However, when the patient died, the family members learnt about the news prompting them to refuse to collect their relatives’ remains from the facility.

At a later stage, through the intervention of other health workers, the family members agreed to collect the remains from the hospital.

The authorities at the hospital assured them that the management will take the matter seriously and the said nurse will face disciplinary action.

According to Senior Group Village (SGVH), NKhwemba, this is not the first time health workers had shown behavior of such kind.
