Twenty five people were arrested by police in Uganda on Monday for staging a protest against the rising cost of living.
The incident happened in the eastern district of Jinja, 80Kilometres from the Capital Kampala.
Many of the protesters were motorcycle taxi operators who raised their concerns saying government should intervene and subsidize the price of essential commodities.
As part of demonstrating, the protesters blocked major highway roads with logs and tyres before the police came in and scattered them.
James Mubi, the spokesperson for Kiira region claimed that he had information that the protest were organized by other politicians who are opponents of the current regime.
Just like many countries across Africa, Uganda is experiencing rise costs of living which is being blamed on the Russia and Ukraine war.
