43-YEAR-OLD COMMITS SUICIDE IN MJ OVER A STOLEN PHONE, LEAVES BEHIND SUICIDE NOTE

A 43-year-old man in Mulanje committed suicide on Wednesday, July 6 after learning that his mobile phone has been stolen.

Mulanje police public relations officer, Sub-inspector Gresham Ngwira has confirmed of the incident and identified the deceased as Wise Mbewa who hailed from Sakhama village, Senior Chief Mabuka in the district.

Ngwira said, Kenneth Malumero a relative to Mbewa reported to police that prior to his death, on Tuesday the deceased went to collect his phone from where he left it charging.

“A few minutes later he was on a call and an unknown person snatched the phone and fled. The following day, he was found hanging to a roof in his house using a wire,” Ngwira said.

The deceased left behind a note that stated the reason for the act.

A postmortem at Dzenje Health Centre showed that the deceased died due to strangulation.
