5 YEARS IN PRISON OR K5 MILLION FINE IF FOUND WITH CHARCOAL, SEE ALL LATEST STIFF PELNATIES UNDER THE FORESTRY ACT

People found in possession of charcoal will have to pay K5 million fine or spend ten years in jail following the new Forestry Act passed in 2020.

Department of Forestry head of law enforcement operations, Daniel Kabichi said the new stiff laws represent the country’s latest move to combat acts of deforestation and increasingly trend of illegal charcoal trade.

“Under the amended law, crimes for the production, transport and commerce of illegal charcoal are treated similar to other as illegal activities (like illegal logging),” said Kabichi.
