Six people have been sentenced to 66 years in prison each for attacking Mount Carmel Catholic nuns’ Convent under Kapiri Parish in the district.
The six were found guilty and convicted on three robbery counts and for each they were sentenced 21 years imprisonment to run concurrently.
Armed with a gun and machetes, the thugs, who included a guard at the institution, attacked a convent and assaulted nuns as they were having dinner in May this year. They took away two laptops, four cellphones and some cash.
The robbers are Ronald Chinthunzi, a guard aged 31, Mariko Chinyama, 42, from Mchinji, Madalitso Chikuse, 45, Mathews Mgona, 32, George Chipembele, 38, all from Lilongwe, and Kelvin Banda, aged 21, from Zomba district
