Barely a day after being released from prison where he completed a 7-year jail sentence for robbery, a Mangochi man has again found himself behind bars after defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Abdul Imani, 38, defiled the standard 7 pupil during the morning hours of June, 10, 2022 at Mpima Forest.
According to Mangochi Police Spokesperson, Amina Daudi Tepani, the girl met the suspect on the way as she was selling pumpkins.
“The suspect stopped the minor in the guise of a customer and convinced the victim to follow him to his house saying he would buy all the pumpkins. On their way while passing Mpima Forest, the suspect dragged the victim into the bush where he defiled her despite screaming and shouting for help,” explained the police spokesperson.
It is reported that the girl was later found by passing by people who reported the matter to police. Upon being examined at Mangochi District Hospital, results showed she was indeed defiled.
Police acted quickly and arrested the suspect who is now waiting to answer charges of defilement that contravenes section 138 of the penal code.
The suspect hails from Kalonga village T/A Mponda in Mangochi District.
