TRAFFIC OFFICERS TO BE ACCOMPANIED WITH ARMED OFFICER

Traffic officers in the country have been instructed to be operating with an armed police officer as a surety for their safety.

This comes following a spate of attacks on traffic officers in which in one scenario a female traffic officer was hit to death by a furious motorist while manning a roadblock.

In a communique addressed to all units in the country, the traffic officers have been urged to resist carrying out their tasks without an officer armed with a rifle.

“Make sure you are accompanied by an armed police officer or have someone within the team to carry a riffle when going for traffic checks, no team should be found without a firearm,” reads the communique signed by D Kawaye, Officer in Charge Service Traffic and Transport.
