A 21-year old man has turned himself in at Chinsapo Police Unit, Lilongwe, after he allegedly killed another over a cellphone.
According to Lilongwe police public relations officer, sub-inspector Foster Benjamin, the incident occurred on Thursday at Ntonthelera Village Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda in the district.
“The suspect, identified as Jampion Lesiton, gave the deceased, Enock Zuma, 30, a mobile phone to repair.
” But he was given back a wrong phone by the repairer’s wife, “explained Benjamin.
When Zuma rushed to get the handset back from Lesiton, a quarrel ensued.
It ended into a fight when the suspect stabbed the victim with a screw driver.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Outraged, the deceased relatives hunted Lesiton down, who had already surrendered himself to police.
They went on to set ablaze three houses before police came in to quell the situation.
Meanwhile, police have warned people against taking laws into their own hands.
