Police in Dowa have arrested eleven pupils for staging demonstrations against the high cost of living.
The students are from various schools in the district.
Some learners from Mponela 1 and 2 primary schools at Mponela trading centre said that due to the current high cost of living, their parents are failing to provide necessities for them hence the reason they thought of holding the protests.
The angry learners pelted stones at Mponela Police Offices, damaging window pens.
This angered the men in uniform who were joined by their colleagues from Ntchisi Police station to fire teargas canisters in a bid to disperse the learners.
The angry learners also allegedly smashed a police vehicle.
