A police vehicle overturned in Dowa district after it was hit by a vehicle driven by MDF officer on Saturday along Lilongwe-Kasungu road.
A police officer and two other passengers were in the police vehicle when the accident happened fortunately they all escaped with minor injuries.
According to Dowa Police Publicist, Gladson M’bumpha, the vehicles involved were a police service motor vehicle registration number MHG 5627 Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up driven by a police officer from Mzuzu Police Station and a motor vehicle registration number MHG 5627, Toyota Axio Saloon driven by MDF officer from Kamuzu Barracks.
“At around 15:30 hours, the driver of the police service vehicle was driving from the direction of Lilongwe heading to Mzuzu with two passengers on board. Upon arrival at Atiel Private School, the MDF officer started overtaking the police service vehicle and in the process of overtaking, he hit behind the police service vehicle. Following the impact, the police service vehicle swerved to the nearside verge and overturned,” explained the publicist.
It has been reported that the police officer sustained a cut on the forehead and on both arms while two other people sustained cuts on their foreheads and the MDF officer escaped unhurt.
The police vehicle got extensively damaged after overturning while the Toyota Axio had its offside fender and lens damaged.
Police have since urged motorists to be cautious whenever they decide to overtake another vehicle on the roads of Malawi.
