Police have arrested one of their own for shooting to death a civilian over his failure to pay for a bottled water at Gateway Mall in Lilongwe on Sunday night.
The suspect has been identified as Sub Inspector David Chitsike who “accidentally” shot to death 36-year-old fitness trainer identified as Makawa.
Peter Kayala, National Police Public Relations Officer has confirmed of the arrest and say the police will provide more information after a further investigation into the matter.
“We are aware of the incident and at the moment we have placed the officer involved in the fracas in our custody, once all the investigations are done we will update the nation accordingly,” Kalaya said.
Makawa met his fate on Saturday night around 23; 00hrs at Gateway Mall for refusing to pay for a bottled water which he acquired from Acress Bottle Store.
